A City Business License is required in order to conduct business within the City of Sonora. Business Licenses are governed by Chapter 5 of the Sonora Municipal Code and Ordinance No. 654 and Encompassing Ordinances No. 658, 661, 662, 673, 681, 688, 696, and 700. Applicants should review these documents prior to proceeding with their request for a City Business License. City of Sonora business licenses are not regulatory.

Who is required to obtain a City of Sonora Business License?

New Law

On September 19, 2012 Governor Brown signed into law SB-1186 which adds a state fee on any applicant for a local business license or similar instrument or permit, or renewal thereof. The purpose is to increase disability access and compliance with construction related accessibility requirements and to develop educational resources for businesses in order to facilitate compliance with federal and state disability laws, as specified.
