TITLE VI

The City of Sonora, under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and related statutes, ensures that no person shall, on the basis of race, color, or national origin, be excluded from participation in or be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.

Title VI Complaint Procedures

Any person who believes they have been discriminated against on the basis of race, color, or national origin may file a Title VI complaint with the Title VI Coordinator.  The complaint must be filed within 180 days of the date of the alleged discrimination.  Please complete a complaint form and submit it to the Title VI Coordinator.

Complaints will receive a written response acknowledging receipt of the complaint. The Title VI Coordinator will review the complaint to determine whether it falls under its jurisdiction.  All complaints falling under the City of Sonora’s jurisdiction will be investigated as quickly as possible.  A written notice of findings will be provided upon completion of the investigation.

Complaints that do not fall under the City of Sonora’s jurisdiction will be referred, wherever possible, to the California Department of Transportation, the Federal Highway Administration, the US Department of Transportation, or the US Department of Justice, and/or the complainant will be advised.
