The Community Development Department is open Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (closed for lunch from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.) and closed on Fridays.  Permit Applications can submitted at City Hall or via email to [email protected]. With prior arrangements, Email documents and PDF Plans can be sent to [email protected] and to [email protected].

Building Inspections are available Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please contact the Building Department to schedule an appointment via phone, (209) 532 3508 ext 2, or via email at [email protected].

Deferred Submittals

Deferred submittals for fire are not allowed within the City of Sonora.

Code Enforcement

Code Enforcement is only staffed one (1) day a week on Tuesdays. To file a complaint, please fill out the form below and send it to Code Enforcement via email at [email protected] or drop it off at City Hall. All complaints are confidential.

The Community Development Department provides a combination of Building and Planning services, as well as grant funded programs, projects and special events. The Department is overseen by the Community Development Director and 3 part-time contracted employees, providing plan check and inspection services, planning services, and code enforcement services.

The Community Development Department enforces of the California Building Code, City Ordinances, Policies, and Procedures through a plan check and inspection process that ensures that projects are designed and constructed according to code. This Department responds and assists in the resolution of inquiries and complaints related to a variety of health and safety concerns within the City through Code Enforcement.

The City of Sonora promotes fair housing and makes all programs available to low and moderate income families regardless of age, race, color, religion, sex, national origin, sexual preference, marital status, or handicap.
