NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING FOR CITY OF SONORA PLANNING COMMISSION

A Public Hearing will be held by the City of Sonora at a Special Meeting of the Sonora Planning Commission at City Hall, 94 N. Washington Street, Sonora, on Monday, September 14 at 5:30pm for Consideration of a Design Review Permit for the installation of a Rooftop Solar array on the Historic Gunn House Inn located at 286 South Washington Street (APN 002-152-063).

Project Description: The applicant is requesting a Design Review Permit for the installation of a rooftop solar on the Historic Gunn House Inn, just outside the City’s Historic District. The solar array is proposed on the front and rear 4/12 gable roof covered with corrugated metal roofing on the main Gunn House building. The accessory building contains an unpainted corrugated metal roof adjoining June Street. The solar array is proposed to lay flat on the sloping roofs to minimize detracting from the overall architectural character of the Historic Gunn House.  As proposed, the solar array is laid out around the central chimney to not detract from the architectural character of this feature. The layout also contains a border around the perimeter for fire access standards.

Environmental Review: The project is determined to qualify for an exemption from the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) pursuant to Section 15301 – Existing Facilities, Class 1 of the State and City Guidelines for implementation of CEQA which states that minor alterations of an existing private structure involving negligible or no expansion of use beyond that existing at the time of the lead agency’s determination is exempt from CEQA.

Public Hearing: The City of Sonora Planning Commission will conduct a public hearing on September 14, 2026, at 5:30pm in City Hall to consider approval of a Design Review Permit for the installation of Rooftop Solar array on the Historic Gunn House located at 286 South Washington Street (APN 002-152-063).

THIS MEETING IS PHYSICALLY OPEN TO THE PUBLIC AND THE PUBLIC WILL BE GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO PROVIDE PUBLIC COMMENT.  Pursuant to State law, challenges in court to actions on the above proposal may be limited to issues raised during public hearings or meetings conducted on the matter, or in correspondence submitted prior to the start of the meeting.
